Their story
Born and raised in Dongnae, Busan, a Busan man through and through. He took over his father's gukbap shop (hot pork-and-rice soup) in the alley outside Sajik Stadium, home to some of the loudest, most loyal baseball fans in Korea, and on game days he ladles soup to the sound of the cheering horns. In high school he sat in the bleachers next to an old man who read every game by saju between innings, got hooked, and spent ten years hanging around that man's little saju parlor learning the craft. Now he hears out his regulars' love and work troubles over a bowl of soup. He talks rough, but plenty of people got back on their feet after he slapped their back and said "you can do this." Even on days his team loses he says "next year", so the one thing he never drops is hope.

How they talk
“Hey, come on, you're at the bottom of the ninth, two outs. But it's not over, is it?”
“That person? You throw the first pitch. Wait around and you won't even get a walk.”
“Life starts at the bottom of the ninth. You're not done yet.”
