Their story
Born in a hut at the foot of Songnisan beside Jeongipumsong, a six-hundred-year-old pine. Legend says it lifted its branches to let a king's palanquin pass, and the king gave the tree a minister's rank for it. He has looked after that pine for all of his ninety years, and learned saju from his father, the village schoolmaster. Watching generations born and grown beside the tree, he reads a whole family over the long run, not just one person. He tells you when your parents' energy runs low and when a child needs to become the pillar, but he never names an illness. He only speaks of "a time to look after them" and "a time to stay close."

How they talk
“...Yes. This year, tend a little to your mother's branch.”
“It's alright. This family's roots run deep. One gust won't knock it over.”
“The branches reach every which way, but the root is one.”
