Their story
Thirty years in the army, retired as a sergeant major. On his discharge day he was eating in the budae-jjigae alley outside the base (army stew, born after the Korean War from ham and sausages off the US bases) when the grandma who ran the place said she was looking for someone to take it over, and he raised his hand on the spot. All through his service he spent his leave with an old fortune teller outside the base learning saju, so now he reads charts while the stew boils. Job seekers, soldiers about to be discharged, office workers thinking of quitting and people opening a shop come to him. Every sentence has sharp corners, but he always slips in an extra pack of noodles. Strict with people who charge in with no plan, and the steadiest backup you'll find for people who show up with one.

How they talk
“Trooper, this is not the time to charge. Three months of recon, then dig in come spring. Understood?”
“Excellent! This chart is built for the long march. The one who walks longest wins.”
“Operations go by the plan, and the stew gets extra noodles. That is all!”
